Once Saved Always Saved

What does God say? Do you know? Or, are you just familiar with the doctrines of your denomination or traditions handed down to you by others? Have you ever studied it out for yourself? If not, are you willing to risk the loss of your soul forever and forever, based on what someone else has told you? Please, stop, pray, listen and think, think, think!

In MAT 24:13 Jesus said, "But the one who endures to the end, he shall be saved. What if this one began sincerely with Jesus but did not endure to the end? What if he turned away or fell away? What then? Was not the condition to be saved that he had to endure to the end? If it is "once saved always saved", then why did Jesus say that? Think about it!

JAM 5:19,20 My brethren, if any among you (brethren) strays from the truth (falls away), and one turns him back (from his sin), let him know that he who turns a sinner (brother practicing sin) from the error of his way will save his soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins. Are not brethren those who have once been saved? Why did the brother now need to have his soul saved from death by being turned back again, if it is "once saved, always saved? If he had not been turned back, would he have endured to the end? Think about it! Isn't death of the soul, the loss of the soul and if lost, will it not be forever?

JOH 15:1,2,5,6 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. "Every branch in Me (Jesus) that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it, that it may bear more fruit. "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides (endures) in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing."If anyone does not abide (endure or continue) in Me, he is thrown away as a branch, and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. Did you notice that these branches were "in Christ"? Can anyone be "in Christ" without having been once saved? Was the branch that was in Christ, but that did not bear fruit, always saved? When that unfruitful branch was cut off (from Jesus) and thrown into the fire, did it (he or she) endure to the end? Does being cut off and thrown into the fire seem like once saved, always saved to you? Why did Jesus say if anyone (no exceptions) does not abide (endure to the end) he is thrown away, if it is once saved, always saved? Think about it. Meditate on the Word of God. If it is once saved, always saved then why did Jesus say you must endure to the end and bear fruit?

HEB 10:26-31 For if we (all Christians including the writer himself) go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth (experienced salvation), there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins (as there was before), but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses (according to the law). How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified (in the past he was saved and cleansed), and has insulted the Spirit of grace (by willfully sinning)? For we know Him (The Lord) who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge His people (once saved people)." It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God (If you go on willfully sinning and don't endure to the end!). Read it again if you missed anything and think about it!

Did you notice that if a once saved person continues to willfully sin that the sacrifice (Jesus's Blood) is no longer in effect? Did you see that now, rather than being always saved, that he has a certain terrifying expectation of judgment waiting for him? What about the fact that the law of Moses required physical death if you broke it, but here the writer says a more severer punishment than that will now be expected of someone under grace? Isn't it a more severe punishment to be put to death spiritually than physically, to lose your soul rather than just your physical life? Since the Grace of God is telling us to deny ourselves of sin, can you see how a believer who has been cleansed by the blood of Jesus, who then goes on sinning willfully is trampling under foot the Blood of Jesus and insulting the Spirit of Grace? Did you also notice that the vengeance of God was going to fall on this once saved person and how terrifying it would be? And who did the Lord say he was going to judge in this way, except for His own people? If it is once saved, always saved, then why was this written in the Bible? Think about, please think about this.

EZE 33:13,17,18,19 "When I say to the righteous (saved person) he will surely live (eternal life), and he so trusts in his righteousness (salvation) that he commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but in that same iniquity of his which he has committed he will die (loss of his soul). "Yet your fellow citizens say, 'The way of the Lord is not right,' when it is their own way that is not right. (the teachings of men today say this is not right and teach unconditional eternal security instead) "When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, then he shall die in it (just like Jesus explained about the vine and branches). "But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and practices justice and righteousness, he will live by them. (Just like Jesus promised to all who repent and obey Him).

So if the once saved righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices sin, did he endure to the end to be saved as Jesus required? In that case, did his fruit remain good after he was connected to the vine? Did he abide in the vine, or was he cut off and thrown into the fire? Did the sacrifice for sin (Jesus) continue to cover him after he began to willfully sin? If the once saved man now dies, because of sin, was he always saved? Please think about it, pray, study and think, think. Please don't fall into sin because you believe in unconditional eternal security and lose your soul forever and forever. It's just not worth it!

In the beginning God said, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die. " GEN 2:16 This was not physical death, but spiritual death. Notice that they had to be alive (spiritually) in order to die and they did not die physically that day.

Adam and Eve were sinless, saved and perfectly secure in their salvation as long as they obeyed God and did not sin by eating from the forbidden tree. Remember, the Lord said to this once saved and secure couple, if you eat from this tree you will surely die!

GEN 3:1-4 Now the serpent (Satan) was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?" And the woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said,' You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.' " And the serpent said to the woman, "You surely shall not die! In other words, Satan was saying "if you are saved you can willfully sin and you will still be saved". Satan was saying to Eve, "once saved, always saved!

So, the Doctrine of God and the doctrine of Satan are still with us today. God has always said to His own people, "if you willfully sin, you surely shall die!" Satan has always said to God's people," if you willfully sin, you surely shall not die!" Which one do you believe? Think about it, I pray you think about it very seriously! Once saved, always saved is the most deadly doctrine of all time! Many are the victims Satan has cast down with it. Are you going to be one of them and die or one of the few who enter by the narrow way, who live?

HEB 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever. Notice that the nature and Word of God has always been the same and always will be. It is man who has changed it and Satan who is behind the lies. God has always warned his people.

Jesus said in LUK 13:24, "Strive to enter by the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. If it was just ask Jesus into your heart and then you could go to heaven no matter what you did later, why did Jesus say "Strive to enter"? He also said in MAT 7:14, "For the gate is small, and the way is narrow that leads to life, and few are those who find it. This narrow way does not allow willful sin and bad fruit to enter, no exceptions!

Once saved always saved? In Old Testament times this wasn't the case. Back then Ezekiel 18:24 was in effect. It was possible to lose one's proper standing with God. This explains why King Saul, Absalom, Judas Iscariot, and the crowd mentioned in John 6:66 could lose their salvation. What changed everything was the Day of Pentecost. Ever since then the Holy Spirit indwelled the true believer and his salvation became sealed. Paul mentioned in Ephesians 1: 13 and 4:30 that the believer's salvation became sealed. In ancient times when a king made a pronouncement he but a seal over it. It could NEVER be revoked. Our salvation is no different. It is sealed forever. Ever since Pentecost, Ezekiel 18:24 was no longer in effect. Furthermore you say in your Doctrinal Statement that if a believer strays and loses his salvation, he can repent and become re-saved. But look at Hebrews 6: 4,5, and 6. It basically says that the idea of an unsaved person becoming truly saved and then straying and losing his salvation to the point where he has to become re-saved is IMPOSSIBLE. Apparently that is not how the system works. The prodigal son mentioned in Luke lost his father's intimacy but he never lost his sonship. He was a son in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. What I believe is if one is truly he shouldn't want life any other way.

The Gospel is eternal and the conditions are as well

The old and new testament are in agreement, it has always been that if you fall away you will die

The prodigal son was dead and was made alive again, which means he was alive before he left his father and made alive again when he repented and returned to the father.

Jas 5:19 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back,

Jas 5:20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

Here is a case where one of the brethren (a saved person) could stray from the truth and be turned back and have his soul saved again from death

Rom 11:17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,

Rom 11:18 do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.

Rom 11:19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in."

Rom 11:20 Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear;

Rom 11:21 for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.

Rom 11:22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.

Here we have a warning to those who were saved. He will not spare you no more than He did the Jews. Behold the kindness and severity of God. God's kindness if you continue with Him, otherwise you will also be cut off.

Go read John 15 about the vine and branches. Jesus is the vine. The branches are those in Him (saved). But if they do not abide in Him and bear good fruit they are cut off and thrown into the fire.

Patrick, I hope you read these and wake up to the truth.

This is so wonderful and refreshing to hear! Reading this is very clear and uplifting to know we have a just and righteous God. It makes perfect sense. It's all summed up in the scripture Matt 24:37- "for the gate is small and the way is narrow and there are few who find it." There are only a FEW not MANY. So how could every "Christian" religion think they are going to heaven? There's only one God and one Truth and FEW who actually endure to the end! (Not "everybody goes to heaven.") Thank you for your post!

I never bought into the once-saved-always saved (eternal security) bologna. It never made any sense how a guy could be "saved" and then go live like he wasn't and still go to heaven. Rubbish. But it seems to me to be a hard thing to be saved at all. Jesus said "If it is with difficulty that the RIGHTEOUS is saved..."

Well, if it's hard to save a righteous man, what about the rest of us? I'm an old man. I've come and gone so many times my head hurts just thinking about it. My life seems so pointless and I know it's because without God life has no real meaning. I know Jesus opened the way to get God. That is, to have God in your life, or maybe I should have a relationship with Him, but getting into this way when you're an old man seems impossible. All this business about endurance and abiding, and doing all this stuff (the good deeds and whatnot). Seems like an old man hasn't got a chance. Too old to DO much of anything.

I'm curious what your thoughts are on this.

Nicole, Thanks for your response. I am glad you can see that it will be only a few that enter heaven and that everyone who does must endure to the end.

Markus, It is never too late to come to the Lord, only if you will come with all your heart. He will give you the ability to do whatever you need to do to please and serve Him and He will not require anything of you that you are not able to do. He is very patient and kind and longsuffering. But He will not tolerate lukewarmness or hypocrisy or rebellion or any willful disobedience or willful sin. So put you hope and trust in Him before it is too late and seek Him in prayer and the scriptures and wait for Him to give you direction. If you want more input from me, email me at the address on the website home page and I will be glad to help you anyway I can.

Best to you,

Dear Brother Don,

There is _no_ Scripture which teaches this antinomian caricature, “Once Saved, Always Saved.” But, most assuredly, there is _no_ Scripture which teaches the deceitful, legalist ‘myth’, “Once saved, you need to keep yourself saved.” This is the most demonic form of works-righteousness—it bases salvation upon what one does to maintain salvation, not upon faith in Jesus’ saving sacrifice on Calvary.

1) Those whom God saves have belonged to Him _from eternity_:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: according as He has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He has made us accepted in the beloved (Ephesians 1:3-6).”

2) Those whom God saves are saved by _His grace_ to do the good works He has prepared for them:
“For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:8-10).”

3) Those whom God saves can be _certain_ He will work in them until the end:
“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).”

4) Those whom God saves are exhorted to work out their own salvation _because_ it is God who is working in them:
“Wherefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12,13).”

5) Those whom God saves _are_ the permanent property of the Lord Jesus who has called them to Himself:
“But you [v.24] believe not, because you are not of My sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, who gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand (John 10:26-29).”

Hello Bruce,

You have misunderstood me and the scriptures as well. No where in the Bible does it teach you that you have unconditional eternal security for salvation. It is always conditional, you must always follow the Lord and walk in repentance of sin until the end of your life. If you fall away or turn away or fail to bear fruit after being hooked into the vine Jesus, He will cut you off and throw you into the fire. Obedience to God is not works but is required to be saved. Taking up your cross and denying yourself of sin is not works but is required to be saved. Bearing fruit after being saved is not works but is required to be saved in the end. Overcoming as spoken of by Jesus in the book of Revelation is not works, but if you don't overcome after being saved you will not enter heaven. Jesus even warned the church in Sardis to wake up and overcome. Jesus said that their deeds were not completed in His sight which means that there was something else they must do to enter heaven. He also told the church that if they did overcome He would not erase their name from the book of life, which means their name was in the book of life because they had already been saved, but now if they don't wake up and go on to overcome that He would erase their name from the book of life. Why would Jesus say that to a church if they would be saved no matter what? In the book of James the brother who fell into error/sin could be turned from the error of his way and then save the brother's soul from death. He was already a brother (saved) when he fell and had to be turned back again in order to save his soul from death. Bruce there are countless other examples in the Bible of a saved person being in danger of losing his soul. Look at all the warnings Paul made to the saints in all the churches telling them to not be deceived and how they (saints) could not enter heaven if they practiced named sins. Don't just cherry pick the scriptures you like and ignore the rest of the Bible. Even Jesus warned His own disciples the same way. I suggest that you study the Bible as a whole and see that what you believe is just not Biblical at all.

Comment by BRUCE on Wednesday, March 25, 2020...

Brother Don,
Your reply finished with this statement: “I suggest that you study the Bible as a whole and see that what you believe is just not Biblical at all.” Yet you failed to provide a single Scripture that would challenge, or render ‘unbiblical’, any of the 5 points Scripture makes concerning “Those whom God saves…”

Your own ‘study of the Bible as a whole’, it seems, missed this exaltation of “…the power of God; who has saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began (2 Timothy 1:9).”

The Lord Jesus, accordingly, never taught the necessity of a post-salvation program of self-sanctifying obedience that would keep the sheep He had purchased with His own blood out of Hell. He declared, “All whom the Father gives Me shall come to Me; and him that comes to Me I will in no wise cast out (John 6:37).”

The ‘study of the Bible as a whole’, then, will bring this blessing to “Those whom God saves, ”But of Him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, ‘He that glories, let him glory in the Lord.’ (1Corinthians 1:30,31)."

Otherwise, you’re left with this infernal slogan, ‘Once saved, always saved—by the good work of my obedience’.

Comment by DON BRITTON on Wednesday, March 25, 2020...

Hello Bruce,

I am sorry I didn't print out the scriptures for you. I assumed that you would read them in your Bible as I gave you general direction to look them up. You are still misquoting and misunderstanding what I am saying and what the scriptures are saying. I am not saying that you can save yourself or keep yourself saved. I am not saying that the works (of the law) or any religious works can save you, only Jesus can save you. But the scriptures do say that YOU can fall away, turn away, be deceived, be overcome by sin and die in your sins after being initially saved and then not be able enter into heaven. So, for your edification, here are a few of the hundreds of scriptures that confirm this truth.

Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
Rom 6:2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Heb 6:4 For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit—-If you continue in sin after being saved, grace will not save you.

Tit 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
Tit 2:12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, Heb 6:5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come—-The Grace of God instructs you to deny yourself of sin. This is how grace saves you because the wages of sin is death for anyone who practices sin.

Eph 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;
Eph 5:2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
Eph 5:3 But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;
Eph 5:4 and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
Eph 5:5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Eph 5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience———here Paul is warning the saints at Ephesus that no one (including them) could inherit the kingdom of God and Christ if he becomes immoral, etc.

Heb 6:4 For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
Heb 6:5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
Heb 6:6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.
Heb 6:7 For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;
Heb 6:8 but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.
Heb 6:9 But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way—-this is certainly about someone who was once saved but now is condemned

Joh 15:1 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
Joh 15:2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.
Joh 15:3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
Joh 15:4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.
Joh 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
Joh 15:6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned—-no one can be in the vine (Jesus) unless he was once saved. This again proves that some can and will be cut off and burned up who refused to bear fruit

Mar 8:34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
Mar 8:35 "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it.
Mar 8:36 "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?
Mar 8:37 "For what will a man give in exchange for his soul?—-Jesus is again stating that you must carry your own cross and deny yourself or you cannot follow Him. This requires effort and obedience on anyone's part

Rev 3:1 "To the angel of the church in Sardis write: He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars, says this: 'I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.
Rev 3:2 'Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God.
Rev 3:3 'So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.
Rev 3:4 'But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy.
Rev 3:5 'He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.
Rev 3:6 'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.—-here again is the warning to the church (God's saved), not to the lost world. Jesus makes it clear that if they don't complete their deeds and overcome that He would erase their name from the book of life.

Rom 11:20 Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear;
Rom 11:21 for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.
Rom 11:22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
Rom 11:23 And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.—-If God did not spare the natural branches (Israel) when they fell neither will He spare Christians when they fall. He said to fear and to continue in His kindness (your choice and effort) otherwise you will be cut off.

Jas 5:19 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back,
Jas 5:20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.—-This is speaking to brethren, the believers in Christ, stating that if he becomes a sinner again that his soul can only be saved if he is turned from the error of his way.

2Pe 2:20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
2Pe 2:21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them.
2Pe 2:22 It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A DOG RETURNS TO ITS OWN VOMIT," and, "A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire."—-this is another example of someone having escaped the defilements of the world by knowing Jesus as Savior and then getting entangled in the defilements all over again and his last state is worse than before he was saved in the beginning. He is like a dog going back to his own vomit or a sow after being washed by the blood of Jesus returning to wallowing in the mire.

Eze 33:13 "When I say to the righteous he will surely live, and he so trusts in his righteousness that he commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but in that same iniquity of his which he has committed he will die.
Eze 33:14 "But when I say to the wicked, 'You will surely die,' and he turns from his sin and practices justice and righteousness,
Eze 33:15 if a wicked man restores a pledge, pays back what he has taken by robbery, walks by the statutes which ensure life without committing iniquity, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
Eze 33:16 "None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has practiced justice and righteousness; he shall surely live.
Eze 33:17 "Yet your fellow citizens say, 'The way of the Lord is not right,' when it is their own way that is not right.
Eze 33:18 "When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, then he shall die in it.
Eze 33:19 "But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and practices justice and righteousness, he will live by them.—-this shows that the old and new testament are in total agreement and that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever concerning sin.

Heb 10:26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.
Heb 10:28 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
Heb 10:29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
Heb 10:30 For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY." And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE."
Heb 10:31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.—-anyone who goes on willfully sinning after receiving Christ will be worse off than the one who broke the law of Moses. If fact the punishment is much severer since this death is of the soul and not just of the body. By the way notice how this previously saved person who was sanctified had trampled under foot Jesus and regarded His blood as unclean and has insulted the Spirit of grace that was instructing him not to sin resulting in the man becoming the enemy of God who will take out vengeance on him. No one could snatch him out of God's hands, but he sure would wish someone could!

Bruce, I hope you are seeking truth and not just trying to uphold a false belief for personal reasons. This should be more than enough scriptures to help you see the truth.

Brother Don,
The slogan, “once saved, always saved,” is nothing but a catchphrase plastered over Scripture. The sad fact is that this truism conveniently fits into the lives of worldly, Biblically-challenged antinomians. But that falsity doesn’t prove the opposite to be true—‘once saved, always doubtful’.

BTW, I’m not one of those ‘Biblically-challenged, worldly antinomians’ (and I’ve presented nothing here that defends these low-lifes). In fact, I share your disgust with the life-style hypocrisies of nominal ‘Christians’ who fashion their souls around the motto you’re attacking.

The salvation facts presented in all 5 of “Those whom God saves…” Scripture passage shown to you, are robust and unassailable. However, the list of Scriptures you’ve provided have not addressed any of them, or indicated how they represent something ‘unbiblical’.

Those 5 passages bring absolute assurance to Blood-Bought, Spirit-Filled “new creatures” in Christ Jesus. Paul writes of them: “Even when we were dead in sins, [He]has quickened us together with Christ, (by grace you are saved); and has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:5,6).” Paul is describing a vibrant, present reality—an accomplished fact.

And he is also describing those who “…have belonged to Him from eternity; are saved by His grace to do the good works He has prepared for them; can be certain He will work in them until the end; are exhorted to work out their own salvation because it is God who is working in them; are the permanent property of the Lord Jesus who has called them to Himself.”

I’m familiar with, and believe the truth of, _all_ the passages you’ve cited. It’s a no-brainer that the Old Testament repeatedly condemns wickedness, and that Paul’s letters are filled with exhortations to Christians to live godly lives. Colossians 3:1-10 (which you didn’t cite) makes this very clear:

“If you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with Him in glory.

“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: for which things' sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience: In the which you also walked some time, when you lived in them.

“But now you also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him.”

But the “new man” is not the product of a ‘‘once saved, always doubtful’ teaching, because he abides in Jesus, not in the pursuit of ‘obedience perfection’ which saves him from hell. “Let that therefore abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning. If that which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, you also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise that He has promised us, even eternal life (1 John 2:24,25).”

Don, your ‘truth-seeking’ should not consist of reducing salvation to a wobbly possibility that attaches a behavioural imperative to the finished work of Christ Jesus, to His purchase of us with His blood, and to “..the glory of His grace, wherein He has made us accepted in the beloved (Ephesians 1:6).”

“But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul (Hebrews 10:39).”

Bruce, I can see that you cannot understand what I have shared with you or the fact that it is possible for a Christian to lose his soul if he falls away without repenting. So, there is nothing else I can do for you and it is pointless for me to keep trying to get you to understand. You apparently are very deceived and you still don't understand my point or what the scriptures say on this matter. My hope is that you will eventually gain understanding of the truth on this matter.

Sincerely,
Don Britton

Does Jude v4to5 not warn us of false prophets who turn Gods grace into a licence to live in unrepentant sin and think we can escape the earthly and eternal wages of doing so and does this then not teach that those who teach once saved always saved fall into this group? Read all the scriptures which say that those who do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God and then tell me how this fits with once saved always saved. Thank you Paul
